Submodeling in ANSYS 14.5 - ANSYS e-Learning

Submodeling is a computationally efficient way to evaluate local regions of high stress with a finer mesh, without needing to regenerate the solution for the entire model. Submodeling tools have been available in the ANSYS MAPDL environment for decades, but prior to the release of ANSYS v14.5, submodeling was only possible in the Workbench environment through the use of either MAPDL command blocks or an ANSYS Customization Tool (ACT) extension.

This eLearning session demonstrates the submodeling capabilities that are included in the ANSYS Workbench v14.5 release.

Topics Covered:

  • Extracting the submodel section using DesignModeler.
  • Mapping the displacement of the global model onto the cut boundaries of the submodel.
  • Tips and tricks for evaluating the location of the cut boundaries in the submodel.
