Simulating Interference Fits - ANSYS e-Learning

Do any of your analyses include initial preloads that need to be simulated, but you're unsure how to set this up in your finite element analysis? If so, this e-learning will provide you with some modeling tips on how to handle preload situations that are induced by contact in one form or another.

This session covers how to use contact to resolve interferences, with a focus on interference fits. An interference or press fit is a common way for parts to be fastened together and used as a system. See different analysis techniques that can be used to simulate and effectively solve these types of problems with ANSYS Workbench v15.0.

This topic includes aspects of simulation dealing with:

  • Resolving geometric penetration with contact
  • Inducing preload with contact offset
  • Prediction of stress results near contact surfaces
