Finite Element Analysis/Simulation of a Battery Assembly

 

CAE Associates has extensive experience in modeling the manufacturing processes used to make batteries for a wide range of consumer products. A major battery manufacturer was investigating different approaches for battery cell assembly and asked CAE Associates to perform a series of analytical studies of the can-die metal forming process used to crimp the cells. CAE Associates evaluated the sensitivity of changes in the cell design as well as the tooling design. Finite element analyses were integrated into the new cell design cycle and reduced the prototype time by eliminating infeasible designs. CAE Associates' analytical predictions of mechanically induced deformations of the thin-walled cans were verified by testing fabricated cells.
