Parametric Modeling

Prerequisites

B.S. in engineering or engineering experience.  Course assumes proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical and the Workbench Environment.

Access to ANSYS Mechanical software (v15).

Description

The ability to take advantage of a parametric CAD model in order to analyze multiple geometric configurations of an assembly is perhaps the biggest advantage ANSYS provides from a product development perspective. With parametric modeling, design changes that could take weeks or months to re-analyze manually can be evaluated at the click of a mouse. It is an enabling technology for parametric analysis, optimization, and robust design.

This online ANSYS training will cover the basic approach to creating a parametric model in ANSYS Workbench v15.  The use of CAD geometry and Named Selections will be discussed. Parametric sensitivity studies will be performed using the Workbench Parameter Set.  Students will be introduced to the ANSYS DesignXplorer tool which can use the Workbench parameteric model for optimization studies. Workshops are provided in this ANSYS training course to demonstrate features.

Day 1 - 10:00am - 12:00pm - Lecture
Day 2 - 10:00am 12:00pm - Instructor-Led Workshop Session and Q&A period

Topics Include:

  • Importing CAD geometry
  • Utilizing Named Selections during the model setup
  • Defining input and output variables in ANSYS Mechanical
  • Using the Workbench Parameter Set to parametrically update models
  • Introduction to automatically a sensitivity study using ANSYS DesignXplorer

Instructor: Pat Cunningham, M.S.M.E. has over 25 years of engineering experience and teaches the full lineup of ANSYS courses and develops and presents CAE Associates' annual ANSYS Update Seminars.
